Gary was in his element building a shed and driving around countless different cars, trucks, loaders and bobcats!
I also had a great time! From driving work utes alongside train tracks and dodging cows into Port Hedland to pick up supplies and parts, to cooking for all on the station each night, butchering up an entire cow, looking after baby Megan and just helping out with any other jobs that neded doing around the station was a great experience.
The kids had fun also! With 3 other kids on the station to play with and everything from riding horses, collecting countless chicken eggs each day, to playing on rope swings and in treehouses, bouncing on the trampoline, to riding in the back of utes, helping to bake cookies and cakes, looking after baby Megan (whom they just adored) and even handling a python that Zane caught one day! There was never a dull moment!!
Our days started when the sun rose with me starting the day home schooling the girls and then taking off to do all kinds of jobs/errands after, whilst Gary headed over to build the shed!
Most nights we would all sit around the table on the verandah for dinner or outside around the BBQ sharing stories and having a laugh over the days events.
Having not eaten a lot of red meat on our journey so far (we mainly eat fish and squid as that's what we catch.) It was great to indulge in some red meat! And what a novelty knowing that I had butchered up a lot of what we was eating!! Hehehe...
We had a couple of great bonfires in drums a few times also! Some of the staff from Indee station even drove over to join us for Amy's 18th Birthday- great night!
Having seen quite a few snakes on our journey I have developed a bit of a paranoia with them.. But at the same time I am quite fascinated with them also! So when Caz told me Zane had caught a non poisonous python out in the work yard one day I was out there in a flash!
I didn't have plans to hold it, but when Zane passed it over I couldn't resist and in the end didn't want to let it go! (Don't worry I don't have a pet snake in the caravan now... Though it was tempting!!! ;)) Ella even had a hold!!
Casually catching snakes whilst answering business calls... Yep, Zane's clearly done this before... Lol
The girls especially loved getting some horse riding lessons from Amy and took a real liking to spending time with her. I now have 2 girls begging me to get them their very own horses when we get back to Adelaide... (Might need a bigger backyard first I think... Lol)
After 18 days though it was time to move on.. But gosh it was hard leaving!! If it wasn't for the fact we have so many other places we want to see I think we wouldn't have left for months! Not one of us was ready to leave the station..
But with plans to defiantly return next year, and for longer, we managed to pack up and say our goodbyes before heading to our next stop...
Overnight stop - Port Hedland
After spending the afternoon in Port Hedland playing at an outdoor water park and replacing the rims on the caravan (due to the welding on the inner rim deciding to suddenly break away from the outer rim.. Lucky for us it happened as we was pulling into park and was driving slow else there may have been a lot more broken than just a rim!)
Playing at the water park
We then headed to a free camp just on the outskirts of Port Hedland for the night.
The girls made a fire and cooked dinner and we watched as the sunset over Port Hedland whilst reminiscing about our time at Wallareenya.
De Grey
Arriving at De Grey we set up right along the river on a nice green, grassy shady, spot! Awesome!!
After being so busy the last few weeks we decided to spend 2 nights here to just relax and rest. Gary has caught up on some well earned sleep, whilst I have spent most the days sitting by the river, playing bocce with the girls and going for a bit of a bike ride.
Chatting to some people who pulled up next to us last night I also discovered that they live at Port Noarlunga! Small world!!
Today we are headed towards 80 mile beach with no real location in mind!
Brilliant!!!
